Q: I have a Bachelors of Science in Computer Science but I do not enjoy programming. I have not been able to find a job in Information Technology since I graduated from college, 2 years ago. Can I go back to school to become a teacher? How long would it take since I already have a Bachelors Degree? What kind of school would be best for me to get a teaching degree? Thanks.
A: In some states you would not necessarily have to go back to college first to become a teacher. In North Carolina we have something called lateral entry. This is for people who have a bachelors degree and what to teach. Once you have received a job your school board sends off your transcripts to the state. They then tell you what other classes you have to take. I would say check into what your school districts offer. As for what school you have to go to. Most of my fellow teachers are taking their extra classes at a community college. Lateral entry is nice because you have a job as you are continuing your education.
