Q: If I gain acceptance into Rice, of course I will matriculate. I feel pretty good about Rice; my record isn't particularly compelling but I am trying really hard to write a great essay, I'm confident about my recommendations and I know my interview will probably be successful. Anyhow, the real question is if I don't get accepted to Rice, will Morehouse be a strong alternative in regards to my plans for graduate school? Also, will I be more successful academically at Rice or Morehouse since I am black? Morehouse claims that it is one of the top universities for sending its students to elite graduate schools and that African-American students achieve more success there than at predominantly white institutions. However, their average SAT scores don't convince me that their academic reputation is as solid as they are purported to be. I hope to go to Yale Law School. Can someone help me cut through all the hype?
