Q: I would just like to know how much money college graduates owe in student loans. I want to know because I would like to see what it would take for the government to forgive all outstanding loans. I think this would be a great way to "stimulate" the economy and encourage people to get a higher level of education.
A: My friends and I were talking about this just this afternoon. I don't know anyone in my profession (architecture) that owes less than 20k in undergraduate and graduate debt. If these loans disappeared we would have literally hundreds of extra dollars a month that we could spend elsewhere. A lot of top tier universities are going debt free for undergraduates these days...if the people who went to school 10 years ago could get some sort of retro benefit it would really help (us) out.
